Chicago Marine Canvas has temporarily transitioned our craftsmanship and skills to begin manufacturing PPE Face Shields for our first responders and affected community. We are working through our trade association, the Industrial Fabrics Association International, to bring this product to Government and Medical Institutions first locally but also nationally. We’ll continue to produce PPE Face Shields to fight the Covid-19 Cornavirous until this crisis has past.

Our design is based on a variety of commercially manufactured PPE Face Shield but we do have the capability to alter our manufacturing process quickly to fit your organizations needs. Below is a description of the two PPE Face Shields we currently offer.
PPE Face Shields
Face Shield (Tall) – Fabricated from highly versatile PETG plastic. Secured with a 1” elastic headband and 10”x1”x1” medium Foam. Shield dimensions 12” wide x 12.75” tall with a 6” radius on bottom. Item ships with protective plastic to prevent scratching before usage, just peel off by hand.

Face Shield (Wide) – Fabricated from highly versatile PETG plastic. Secured with a 1” elastic headband and 14”x1”x1” medium Foam. Shield dimensions 15” wide x 8.5” tall with a 4” radius on bottom. Item ships with protective plastic to prevent scratching before usage, just peel off by hand.

We are currently in contact with the FDA to obtain a 510 (k) wavier but can still offer the PPE Face Shields per the FDA’s current stance regarding “Masks” during the Covid-19 Coronavirous pandemic. Please see below –
Masks:
Surgical masks provide protection against large droplets, splashes or sprays of bodily or hazardous fluids. They do not provide the wearer with reliable protection from inhaling smaller airborne particles and are not considered respiratory protection. FDA regulates surgical masks as Class II devices and assesses them for liquid barrier protection among other things.
FDA recognizes the urgent need for face masks in the setting of the COVID-19 pandemic due to increased use and shortages in their availability.
FDA does not object to the marketing and distribution of face masks in the healthcare setting without prior 510(k) clearance if the product is labeled in the following manner:
- It states it may be used when FDA cleared masks are unavailable;
- It recommends against use in a surgical setting or where significant exposure to liquid bodily or other hazardous fluids may be expected;
- It makes no claims of antimicrobial or antiviral protection;
- It makes no claims of infection prevention or reduction;
- It makes no claims regarding flammability
- The labeling contains a list of the body contacting materials.
- The mask is not labeled as a “surgical mask”; rather it may be labeled as a “face mask”
